The 15-29 Chicago Cubs and 20-24 Pittsburgh Pirates were outworked on Thursday only scoring a run each in defeat. For Chicago a 1-0 lead after the first inning didn't hold falling 5-1 at the 21-23 Houston Astros. The Cubs scored on Reed Johnson's home run. Chicago was a despicable 0-for-9 with Runners in Scoring Position. Darwin Barney alone was 0-for-3 with RISP.
Elsewhere Pittsburgh couldn't rally to win their series on Wednesday losing 3-1 to the 24-20 New York Mets. The Pirates popped in their lone run during the sixth inning on Andrew McCutchen's RBI-single.
